Sunderland Illumination Challenge

Over the past week, the pupils from Year 4/5 were asked to design a light for Sunderland Illuminations. The class was split up into groups of four, each with a design incorporating Christmas and the community.

These groups then presented to year 5/6 for a closed vote. The winners, Kieran Hunter’s group, were then invited to Kepier Farm home of Northern Power Grid. They needed to write a presentation to explain their idea. Click here to see the presentation.

Although we did not win, all the children spoke beautifully and clearly. After the nerve wracking presentation, there were many lovely activities to complete including mini competitions, colouring, circuit building, wire folding and even an off road experience.

Kieran Hunter won the wire bending activity.  “I was really surprised as I had to start again after snapping my wire. It was so much fun.”

Ryan: “Phenomenal day!”

Ashleigh: “Nothing to pick as a favourite: I loved it all.”

Demi: ”Fun and exciting especially the off road experience.”

Mrs Dunn: “A truly wonderful day: one of the best trips I’ve been on. The children were fabulous ambassadors for our school. Well done!”

Mrs Hird: “Brilliant, fun and exciting trip!”

Although they didn’t win, they should be proud of what they have achieved! Well done, Keiran Hunter (the team leader) Demi Hallway, Ashleigh Nixon-Clark and I can’t belive I’m going to say this but well done Ryan Ford…
