Our Community

Dunn Street values its position in the community. The school supports the community in a range of ways:
* Extensive use, throughout the year, of the local library
* Supports clubs and holiday activities run by the library
* Regular performances by the school choir for Curran House, Palmers Dene, Salvation Army, Save the Children Christmas Appeal, Operation Christmas Child, Carols by Candlelight at St Paul’s Jarrow, Hebburn Catholic Club, Queen Elizabeth College Darlington, British Citizenship Ceremonies at South Shields Town Hall
* During the building of the new Tyne Tunnel, extensive links were made with TT2 and we were involved in the opening ceremony and continuing regeneration projects
* The school is supported by local businesses including HMPlant who sponsor our sport kit
* The school has twice been recognised in the Northumbria in Bloom schools section winning Horticultural Excellence Awards and encourages parents to be involved in the garden
* Due to our proximity to Bede’s World and St Paul’s Monastery, strong links have been developed with this National Heritage Site
* The school has recently researched and recognised Old Boys who served during World War I
* The school is available for community use through bookings
* The school is continually looking for new and exciting opportunities to develop our strong links to the community we serve
