At Dunn Street, we embraced Careers Week and pupils had many opportunities to think about life after school!

On Tuesday, The Bees, Year 5 and The Magnificent 7 were introduced to Exploring Careers.  The sessions were delivered by North East Raising Aspirations Partnership (NERAP) Staff and supported by current undergraduate students. The activity provided a fun, interactive introduction to university with follow-on activities in pupils’ own recording book.

On Thursday, incorporating World Book Day, Year 5 and Year 6 worked with a student from Newcastle University to complete an English Escape Room activity and Maths in Books activity.

On Friday, Year 4, 5 and 6 girls went to South Shields Town Hall because International Women’s Day took place during National Careers Week. In the spirit of inspiring inclusion, the girls attended a careers speed networking event for young women to meet inspirational female leaders from a variety of industries, find out more about their career pathways and be empowered to take ownership of their own careers.

Year 5 continued into the next week, which was Science Week, with a visit to Sunderland University. Read more about this by clicking here.

Year 5 also received a visit from NERAP and University Representatives to complete a LEGO challenge.   Click here to read more.

All pupils were asked to record their top 4 job choices and consider whether they were jobs for men, women or both.

Our Seeds and Buds were very excited to receive a generous donation from Hebburn based Hitachi Construction Machinery of a ride-on digger… The digger will be used to bring to life careers in construction for our Early Years pupils.
