We had a great time yesterday in the sun. it was hot but we cooled off with water games. The children especially liked pouring water on the teachers.
Today Dunn Street Primary were awarded Healthy Schools Award for their efforts with the changes made to the curriculum in regards to PSHE and RSHE. Gracie and Sonny received the award on behalf of the whole schools. They attended the ceremony at South Shields Town Hall with senior members of the council. We are very proud of our school!
Good morning Year 3,
Unfortunately, school will remain closed on Wednesday 29th June 2022. Below are a range of activities for you to complete over the course of the day.
Maths
Begin maths with a warm up and log in to Times Table Rockstars. After you’ve used this for at least 20 minutes, use the following link to access a lesson on equivalent fractions. This should be recapping learning we already know but also introducing new challenges too!
- Times Table Rockstars (20 minutes) https://ttrockstars.com/
- https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/fractions-recognising-equivalent-fractions-1-crt36e?step=2&activity=video&view=1
English
Following maths, log in to Lexia or Reading Plus for 30 minutes. Then use the following link to access a lesson on using an apostrophe for plural possession. This continues from yesterday’s learning on the use of an apostrophe for contractions and singular possession. We’ve looked at this throughout the year and I think this will definitely help further!

Science
Our science learning this half term focuses on light. Use the following link to learn more about this area such as light sources and how light enables us to see! Don’t forget to complete the quiz too!
Complete your day by listening to a story. This is one of my favourites and all about a pet star… 🙂 Based on what you have learned, do you think a star is a source of light? That’s something to think about!
Thank you,
Miss Grewcock 🙂

On Wednesday 9th March, girls in Key Stage 2 participated in the biggest EVER football session! We had an absolute blast and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to get involved in football. Have a look at what we got up to:
It was so popular, we are going to start a new Girls Football session on Thursday lunchtimes. If you would like to attend, all you need is suitable footwear and lots of enthusiasm!
Mrs Giles-Brewster and Miss Noble
On Friday, Blossom Class and Year 3 visited Jarrow library to see Lauren Davis – the author of Scoliosaurus. She shared her book with us and we were able to create our own ‘saurus’ using our hand prints.
If you would like to purchase Lauren’s book you can do so by clicking on the link below.
English
This half term, we have created our own setting descriptions. The setting we focused on was taken from Christina Balit’s ‘Escape from Pompeii’ as this combined our English and Geography learning. We worked incredibly hard to explore setting descriptions, identify features within them and then, finally, write our own. We edited our writing too!
Maths
We began the new year focusing on two of the four operations: multiplication and division. Following this, we moved on to money where we recognised coins, discovered methods to add and subtract as well as found change. We also practised our arithmetic skills with some of us making over five marks of progress in our weekly tests! We can’t wait to develop our learning even further next half term!
Curriculum
As previously said, our Geography focus has been at the core of our learning this half term. We have learned all about the layers of the Earth, even creating our own Play-doh models to show this! Then, we explored how volcanoes are formed and what makes them erupt. We learnt a lot of new vocabulary along the way! We also created our own art work too which shows our paint mixing techniques.
What a half term! Well done, Year 3!
Over the past year we have been implementing a new curriculum for RSE and PSHE into Dunn Street. The children have a weekly lesson called ‘Our Lives’. The children learn how to become happy, confident and safe individuals who can make informed choices about all aspects of their lives now and in the future.
Over the past week we have been reflecting on our journey so far across the three key stages. The children have shared what they have been taught and how this has impacted on their lives. Below is a video showing ‘Our Lives’.
Please click on the link and see our fantastic work!
This week the children of Dunn Street have been taking part in lots of activities around the theme of ‘One Kind Word’ for Anti-Bullying Week. As a school we have looked at what kindness is and how to be kinder to ourselves and others. We started the week with the whole school wearing odd socks to celebrate our differences.
