Year 1 2019/2020

Happy Summer Year 1!!

17th July 2020lbridges

Happy summer holidays everyone!!! I can’t believe I won’t see you again until September. It has been lovely to share these past few weeks with some Year 1 pupils. We have had a wonderful time and done some amazing things. I hope you all enjoyed your little gifts this week and your school reports.

Please remember…

Although our time has ended, our smiles will never fade.
We won’t forget the class of 2020, think of the memories we have made.
It may be goodbye for now, but it is only for a while!

Here is a slideshow of our year together. Can you remember some of these activities?

I hope you all have a wonderful summer holiday and stay safe. It has been a pleasure to be your Year 1 teacher and I can’t wait to see you flourish in Year 2.

IT’S THE LAST WEEK!!

13th July 2020Katie Clough

Hi Year 1,

Can you believe it is the last week before the summer holidays. I hope you have a fantastic last week either in school or completing home learning at home. There are ideas on our web page or you can collect a home learning pack from school from tomorrow.

Happy summer holidays and stay safe.

This is our book for the week – What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside. Hopefully, you’ll get lots of visits there this summer. Click the link below and have a listen and watch the story….

Now have a go at these lens….

Monday – In the story, Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh tried to steal something that didn’t belong to them. Can you make a wanted poster for them, detailing their attempted crimes? Remember to describe each of the characters so that they can be found.

Tuesday – The ladybird came up with a plan to stop the robbers from stealing the mermaid’s hair. What was that plan, and did it work?

Wednesday – If the ladybird had asked you for help in the story, how would you have tried to stop the robbers from stealing the mermaid’s hair? Can you make your own plan?

Thursday – The mermaid was very thankful to the ladybird for stopping the robbers from taking her hair. Can you write a note from the mermaid to the ladybird, thanking him for his help?

Friday – At the end of the story, the robbers realised that their plan hadn’t worked. Where do you think they went next? Do you think they ever tried to steal again?

Phonics

Can you use your phonic knowledge to spell eu and ey words…

Year 1 Celebration!!

10th July 2020lbridges

Happy Friday everyone! It has been another lovely week in Year 1. I can’t believe there is only one more week to go. Here are some of the things we have been up to in our wonderful bubble…

We finally finished our didgeridoos and boomerangs! Aren’t they amazing!? We even went outside to test them…

We created our own rainbow fish out of different materials!

We used bee-bots to work on our position and direction knowledge!

We created beautiful fish and wonderful story maps!

We focused on The Rainbow Fish story this week. First we verbally retold the story to each other and then we created story maps. After this, we retold the story in our books. To finish the week off we read out our stories to the rest of the class. They were amazing!

Friday Celebration Time!!

Even though we couldn’t all be together we still celebrated all our fantastic achievements this week.

100% Attendance from Caiden, Bentley, Leila, Kayden, Tyler, Amjad and Maddox (and Miss Bridges and Miss Hird!) – well done everyone!  We celebrated by watching Minions!!

Congratulations to Tyler this week! You are my star of the week. You created an amazing story about rainbow fish!! Mrs Clough will be so impressed.

Congratulations to Kayden! Super handwriting in your book. Keep it up!

Another lovely week with Year 1. I can’t believe I only have one week left with you!

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine!!

Stay safe and keep smiling.

Summer Term – Week 6….2 weeks to go!!

5th July 2020Katie Clough

Hello Year 1,

Well, only 2 weeks until the summer holidays – the weather looks like its getting better, so let’s all keep our fingers crossed! We are continuing our learning about Australia but also comparing it to where we live in the United Kingdom. If you would like a paper copy of home learning, you can collect a pack from school each Monday morning.

Wednesday – Being kind to others is one of the things that makes you a good friend. Can you think of a time one of your friends has been really kind to you? Can you write down your memory of that time?

Thursday – There are lots of ways you can be kind to others. Can you write down some acts of kindness (for example helping make your lunch, holding a door open for someone or sharing one of your toys). Can you write some acts of kindness on individual pieces of paper and put them in a jar. You could pick one each day and try to complete it.

Friday – Can you write a book review for the story of the Rainbow Fish? What did you like about the story? Did you have a favourite part?

We will also be making boomerangs and didgeridoos – Can you have a go at home?
This video shows you how to make a boomerang…Good luck!
The first boomerangs were made from a single piece of carved wood. The carver heated the wood in hot ashes and then bent it to get the right shape. Today boomerangs used for sports are often made of plywood or fiberglass. Their shape can be very different from the curved shape of traditional boomerangs.
