Year 2 2019/2020

IT’S THE LAST WEEK OF THE SUMMER TERM!!

13th July 2020Katie Clough

Hi Year 2,

When did the year move so fast?! I know some of you are back at school and some of us are still at home and either accessing google meets or collecting home learning packs from school. These will be available to collect from tomorrow but remember school closes on Friday – it will officially be the summer holidays and time for everyone to chill out and look forward to an amazing summer after such a unknown time since March. Let’s hope this new optimism we are seeing across the country continues! I wish you all an amazing summer and I will miss all of you. I need to give a big shout out to Jaeden for his commitment (and his mam’s) to home learning and attending google meets every single day!!

When you return in September to your new Year 3 class I know each and every one of you will thrive!

Take care and stay safe in the summer holidays, we want to see you all back safe and sound in September.

Mrs Clough x

Lesson 1: One minute spelling

Using any media you like (wax crayons, felt tips, colouring crayons, chalk
etc.), write one of these words as many times as you can in 1 minute.

Ask an adult to time you and count how many times you correctly spelt the
word.

Repeat for all three words. Challenge yourself to beat your record each
time. Good luck!

Summer Term – Week 4

22nd June 2020Katie Clough

Hi Year 2,

Aren’t we lucky the sun has started to shine again – I’m sure that won’t stop our virtual lessons. I loved seeing you last week (Arlis, Gracie, Jaeden, Holly, Ellie-Mae C and Kara). You all worked really hard with division and reading activities. A super well done to Ellie- Mae C, Adam and Arlis for completing their Lexia minutes too. Also, a BIG well done to Jaeden for accessing Times Table Rockstars. Let’s try and beat Key Stage 2 this week. Are you up for the challenge?

I know there’s been lots more interest in our virtual learning this week so I can’t wait to get started…

If you are unable to access virtual lessons you can access online learning here or pick up a pack of work from school!

Have a fantastic week.

Mrs Clough

Summer 2 – Week 3

15th June 2020Katie Clough

Hi Year 2,

It was great to see some of you last week at our ‘virtual lessons’ and I can’t wait to see you this week too. Remember to email me at kclough@dunnstreet.s-tyneside.sch.uk.

There’s lots of learning for this week and hopefully the sun is going to shine!!!

Take care

Mrs Clough

English  – The Heart and the Bottle

A truly ‘heartwarming’ story…

  • Use the first line of the book (‘Once there was a girl, much like any other’) to start your own story. How will it be similar / different to this one?
  • Make a list of all of the ‘curiosities of the world’.
  • The girl takes delight in finding new things. Plan an activity / trip in which you would be able to find out new things about a topic of your choice. What will you need? Where might you go? Who would come with you?
  • How many connectives can you find in the story?
  • What different types of punctuation has the author used? Are there any types of punctuation that he did not use? Why?
  • Some of the illustrations have speech bubbles that show pictures instead of words. Can you think of the words that the characters might be using?
  • Retell the story from the girl’s point of view.

Topic – Scavenger Hunts

Last week I’ve been watching Springwatch on the BBC. It has been fascinating to see the beavers rebuilding their dams after all the rain. Our amazing wiildlife has continued to prosper during this uncertain time. You can watch some episodes here https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b007qgm3.

Take some time in your environment and see if you can complete the scavenger hunt…

A magnificent poem by Jaeden

12th June 2020Katie Clough

After our Googlemeet on Tuesday, Jaeden wrote this poem based on the book we read ‘The Invisible String’. It made me quite emotional! What a star Jaeden!
