The £5 Grow bags will be on sale Monday the 5th December. Year 4/5 are working incredibly hard to meet the deadline. Here are some samples for you to preview. Remember £2 per bag! Great Christmas presents!
Many thanks to all the staff at Jarrow School involved in this excellent business enterprise project. Here are the products of the children’s labours, and I think they are very stylish. Well done to our super Year 5 children. I think these are the best of all the designs.
This week we have been looking at the most important thing to do if you are being bullied – tell someone. As well as discussing different poems about bullying and exploring our feelings, we have also been focussing on our individual strengths and talents. We have each drawn our own totem and are now getting the poles ready!

As part of our work on business enterprise, we have decided to make different calico bags to sell. We have completed our research and collected data. We then completed designs and have now used templates – thank you Mrs Dunn – to start decorating. They will be going on sale at the start of December and we expect them to sell very quickly. Have a look at our designs and place an advance order. £2 a bag. What a gift!
After completing our Divali celebration art work we decided to send some to our partner school, Homerton Grammar School in Faridabad, India. They were so pleased that they have displayed them in their school. We are looking forward to receiving our next package of work from them and this year’s Divali cards.
Yesterday Class 4/5 visited the National Trust property Wallington Hall. Once the home of the Trevelyan family, it linked nicely to our text for this term – The Secret Garden. After a talk from the gardener, we then toured the extensive grounds paying particular attention to the walled garden. We also managed a look inside the great hall, kitchen and library. The children were fabulous and we all had a great day. Do please ask us about it.
Welcome to our classroom.
Our reading corner is a bookshop based upon Daunt Bookshop in London.
The learning areas we have are:
English, we are using The Secret Garden as our text for reading and our written work
Maths- -our maths corner is interactive and we have tried to cover application of number to problems
Science – life cycles of plants and the changes to their environment
PSHCE – new beginnings and our own personal strengths
Art/RE – Hindu and Diwali work
Our author of the month for October is Jacqueline Wilson.
We hope you like our classroom!
Year 4/5 were delighted when they were asked to help with bulb planting near to the school to improve the area. The children helped to plant nearly 1000 bulbs which were then covered with grass. They will bloom next year and will form a wave of blue and white flowers. This links nicely to our own Secret Garden work and science. Thank you to Nicole and her team.
